Compression not working at all?

Hi,
I am new to Kopia (running it as a Docker container). I have set up a repository and I am taking snapshots.
But theyre all the same size i.e. uncompressed size, no matter how I change around the compression settings within the policies.

What am I doing wrong?
Cheers, Jan

Nobody can guess. Unless somebody can see your screen. You provide absolutely zero details.

Yes I am sorry about that.
I would like to provide every detail, but i dont know where to start. Screenshot of my policy settings? Screenshot of the snapshot details? Any logfile?

Thank you for looking into this.

What makes you believe that:

How you checked this size?

I have watched the tutorial video on the kopia.io homepage. As I take it, the „Size“ when looking at your snapshot refers to the compressed size of that snapshot‘s contents.
When changing compression settings in policies, the displayed size does not change at all.

But I have now checked the actual folder contents of that repository via

du -h

and it is much smaller: only 2.1 GB :face_with_peeking_eye:
Seems like compression is working, and the size display is wrong?

It shows size of your snapshot data. Not size of data in repository.

So there is no display in Kopia showing you compression rates?

run:

$ kopia content stats

Thank you for all you help!

Just one final question: I have deleted all snapshots in the Kopia UI. But they are still present on my drive: there is still 2.1 GB in that folder which should be empty now?

Actual data from repository is deleted during maintenance runs. It can take some time before it is truly deleted. It is required as a safeguard in lock free, multiple clients backup solution like kopia.
