I am using Ansible to install Kopia. The job would be to get it installed, define the snapshots, setup the policies for schedule, retention etc. I don’t want to run the snapshot right now. Only define it.
However I haven’t been able to find a way to “define” the snapshots that does not cause them to start backing up right now. I have tried to start and then kill the snapshot but it appears until it is completed it won’t appear in the webUI as even being a snapshot.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to define it in advance so it appears in the UI but run it only on policy scheduler?
What sayeth the group?
Hi yes with a trick. Just exclude all Files in backup source and start it once. It will check but not really do anythink. Once it is completed successfully just remove tile exclusion.
However: You can abaort process to and delete corrupt snapshot later.
File Exclusion works fine. E.g. Acronis Backup files - amont > 2.000 files and some TB - So you will be able to create multiple succeeded snapshots.
This may help if WAN connection is not stable and you are backing up to S3 or somethin similar.
Backup chains of third party software are devieded in Full and Differential backups. If you keep weeks oder month initial copy to bucket take a long time.
With file exclusions you are able to deal with multiple succeeded snapshots. The last one will contain all consitent files.
