KopiaUI (the electron app window) is not opening anymore.
The menubar icon is there, connected to my two repos (both S3) but the UI window won’t open.
Neither will the “Connect To Another Repository…” window.
The thing is. That’s not always true. Sometimes it will open.
Environment:
MacBook Pro M1 Pro
macOS Monterey 12.7.6 (21H1320)
S3 repos on Storj and Cloudflare R2
I’ve tested with KopiaUI-{version}-arm64.dmg
0.18.0
0.18.1
0.18.2
20241119.0.64524
20241210.0.41831
and tried going back to v0.17.0 (which worked fine before) but to no avail.
If I run /Applications/KopiaUI.app/Contents/Resources/server/kopia server start --without-password --insecure then I can get to the UI via web browser, browse snapshots and restore files.
I’ve read “BREAKING CHANGE remove support for HTTP-based repository API (#3745)”. Given I don’t use Kopia Repo Server and connect my only client to S3 buckets, I was under the impression this wasn’t affecting my rig. Maybe I was wrong?
Looked into the logs and couldn’t find any error related.
Any reason why you are using not supported OS (not even by Apple)? It is macOS 15.2 nowadays… Yours reached end of life long time ago. Older it gets more issues you will experience especially with new software.
You are on ARM so nothing should stop you from updating it. Update is free and fully supported by your hardware.
I have many reasons. Whether they are valid or not is a discussion for another time though.
Back to the topic at hand, I’ve made some progress!
Like I explained earlier, when I try to open a window from the menubar icon, no window will show up but, active app name (at the left of the menu bar) changes to KopiaUI and its icon shows up in the Dock. Right-clicking the Dock icon, I can see the name of the window. That triggered the simplest idea: I hit the keyboard shortcut of my window manager (BetterTouchTool, for those wondering) to bring it full screen and voilà!
So yes, that’s a glitch that shouldn’t happen. But like you rightfully pointed out, it might very well be related to this outdated (but beloved) OS I’m running.
I assume the issue isn’t related to KopiaUI and wil close with this: thanks for the nudge to update my Mac.
Well, I’ve had similar issues with other apps. So this is NOT kopia related. Managing windows in a multi-display setup is apparently harder that I would think.
Again, thanks for your input (and sorry for the noise).
