KopiaUI does not have access to Photos on Mac

When trying to backup the photos on Mac, I receive errors about KopiaUI not having permissions to access the photos. I can see a log that says the following snapshotted directory {"path":"Photos Library.photoslibrary","error":"in ignoreDirectory.Iterate, when creating iterator: unable to read directory: open /Users/<username>/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary: operation not permitted","dur":"79.301083ms"}.

I am able to backup this directory successfully with the kopia cli.

I expect that the issue is that KopiaUI needs to request access to photos but it does not seem to do so (it does ask for permission to access other protected files like Documents, Desktop, Downloads). If I look in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos I can see that the kopia executable has “Full Access”, but KopiaUI does not appear as an option. From what I have found online, the app has to request access in order to give it access.

Has anyone else been able to backup mac photos with KopiaUI? I’m not sure if I’m missing something or if there’s another way to get this to work…

give kopia full disk access.

Ah, yup that seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the quick response!
